Test devices for catalytic converters – pressing-force test device (force-displacement measurement)

The test device for catalytic converters is a semi-automatic machine for mass product testing of the pressing-forces of catalytic converters (with regard to the tight fit of the monolith in the housing plate). The test specimen is subjected to a defined compressive force (F = 1.5 - 3 kN = const), whereby the maximum permissible displacement of the monolith must not exceed a certain limit value (e.g. 0.14 mm) in order to be able to identify the test specimen as a good part. According to the result, the workpiece is sorted out as an OK or NOK part after the test.

Measurement of the test force

The force is measured using a quartz force measuring element.

The electrical charges emitted by the force measuring element are converted into proportional voltages by a charge amplifier and passed on to the measuring control.

The force measuring element records the compressive force in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the workpiece in order to keep it constant during the testing process. The displacement of the monolith in the housing is recorded by a path measuring element.
